 Our Purpose

Our purpose is to challenge, nurture, and encourage our teens during some of the most important years of their lives.

We believe that a full life is found in following Jesus Christ's example. For today's teenager, this means forming an identity based on service and self-worth rather than on merchandise and the media. It means building character and integrity. It means looking out for the interests of others as much as for one's own. It means being able to socialize with the popular as well as the unpopular. It means being the same person no matter what context.

To attain these traits, teenagers in our youth group join in a range of activities from service projects to games nights, from one-on-one counseling to state-wide youth rallies, from leadership training to Bible-study.

During the school year, regular teen events take place throughout eah week. Longer trips include weekend rallies and retreats and week-long college tours and mission trips. The youth group is open to all teens in grades 6 through 12.

Events

Weekly Teen Meetings

Contact person: Jon Singleton.

During the school year, the youth group meets every Saturday night (unless otherwise scheduled) for fellowship and devotional time, games, Bible studies, movies, and opportunities for service. During the summer, adult members of our church help to organize one-time events like bonfires, hiking trips, and cookouts for our teens.

Teen meetings are the core of the youth group's program. Attending every week, teens learn leadership, build friendships, gain spiritual discipline, and lean on each other as together they follow Jesus Christ. Always bring your Bible!

Teen meetings are typically held every Saturday from 6 to 9 PM at the Annex of the Wetzel Road Church of Christ. Each teen meeting includes time for snacks and fellowship, a devotional and group Bible study, and fun activities. Bring your Bible. Girls bring snacks, guys bring drinks.

Girls' Nights and Activities

Contact person: Tracy Donitzen

Once a month, the girls get together for a sleepover or a daytime activity. These events offer opportunities for fun, friendship, spiritual growth, and leadership.

Camp Hunt

We encourage all teens to attend a week-long session (or more!) at Camp Hunt. Lifelong friendships begin at Camp Hunt! Check out Camp Hunt online at http://www.camp-hunt.com or e-mail last summer's program directors, Jon Singleton (springheeld@hotmail.com) and Laura Shaver Wilder (lbsw12280@yahoo.com).

For information about partial camperships are available through the Wetzel Road Church of Christ, please contact Adam Lougee (adam_srv1@hotmail.com).

Youth Rallies

Starting with the Camp Hunt Youth Rally (August 15-17) and running throughout the school year, youth rallies let our teens join other Christians from across Upstate New York for weekends of worship, fun, and spiritual growth.

Our next youth rally will be the Albany Youth Rally (October 3-5).

"As a community of believers, we joyfully offer ourselves to God, so that His mission of reconciliation in Christ, transformation by the Holy Spirit, and loving service to humanity may be carried out through us."
